At James Chambers, we source our own timber, machine it ourselves and sell direct to you. By doing this, we control the quality and continuity of supply and offer the best quality at competitive prices. Other timber products we carry vast stocks of and a comprehensive range of are, timber decking, fencing, sheet materials, insulation, flooring, doors and timber buildings.

Softwood is produced from coniferous trees and is commonly referred to within the UK market as either redwood or whitewood.  Redwood softwood is derived from pine trees, whilst whitewood softwood is from spruce trees.  Both types are widely used within the UK market for:

  • Constructional purposes
  • Planed timbers, skirting and architraves
  • Joinery applications
  • Cladding
  • Flooring
  • Decking

Generally speaking, the logs for both species are sawn and sorted into different grades according to knot content.

Hardwood is produced from both evergreen and deciduous trees.  Common examples are Oak, Maple, Iroko, Teak, Mahogany, Ash, Birch, Walnut, Elm and Sycamore. Hardwoods are sawn and sorted into different grades, the higher quality material being sought after by the furniture and joinery industry.  Common uses of hardwoods in the UK market are:
